Scientific Method 9th grade biology

1. Question Choose something that you want to know

Example: Why did my hair frizz up when I went outside?

2. Hypothesis Come up with an educated guess to answer the question you asked. A hypothesis cannot be a random guess, it should be something that you have researched.

Example I’ve done research, and I think my hair gets frizzy because of the humidity.

3. Experiment An experiment is a test designed to prove your hypothesis correct or incorrect.

There are several factors to consider in an experiment There are several factors to consider in an experiment. Those factors are called variables.

Example I’m going to wear my hair the same way, in the same place, washed with the same shampoo, outside for 30 minutes in 25% humidity, 45% humidity, 65% humidity, and 85% humidity.

4. Analyze the Data What did the experiment show? This might be recorded in a table, graph chart, etc.

5. Draw a Conclusion Based on the experimental data, was your hypothesis correct in answering your question?

Example Yes, the data showed my hair was more frizzy in humid environments.

6. Record Results Complete a lab report, article, or publication on your experience and your findings. Other scientists may use your experiment to test their own.
