Web 2.0 for Organization TIE585AC Integrating Web 2.0 Applications in the Classroom Module #6 Image source:

Organization Organization means different things to different people. Some can have a pile of papers scattered across their desk and can find what they need in a minute. Others need everything neatly spelled out and in proper order to function Web 2.0 offers a great deal of organizational tools for you personally as an educator and for you to use with students as well

RSS Feeds RSS Feeds offer a valuable way to stay organized for educators RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication (but sometimes is referred to as Rich Site Summary) An RSS feed acts as a fetching machine. Instead of you going out to 20+ websites searching for new information an RSS feed allows that new content to be brought right to you RSS Feeds can be found everywhere! Books, recipes, blogs, tv listings, viral videos, sports, quotes of the day, weather, and more!

RSS Feeds Image source:

RSS Feeds Youll need a Feed Reader to subscribe to sites that have RSS feeds. These readers act as the storage house for all of your feeds. Some common feed readers include: RSS in Plain English video:

Internet Starter Pages Internet Starter Pages act as homepages each time you log in to the Internet. These pages can contain hundreds of different widgets (i.e. mini computer programs) They are meant as a way to organize the Internet content you are most interested in seeing on a consistant basis You can pull RSS feeds into your start pages

Organize Your Papers Bibliography tools allow easy formatting assistance for students (even college students) to organize all resources they come across for assignments. These are two that I have found to be quite helpful and easy to use

Module #6 Assignment Choose 1 of the following 5: Using Popplet, Bubbl.us, or Lino it create a concept map about an upcoming lesson or unit you will teach. Include URLs, images, videos, or other resources you will use to teach this Blog about the assignment. Is this a tool that you found easy to work with? Will you use it with students? What level of Blooms Taxonomy or NET standard did this tool cover? Embed the assignment on your wiki page and link to your blog post about the assignment

Module #6 Assignment Choose 1 of the following 5: Use Popplet, Bubbl.us, or Lino it with your students on a lesson you are currently working on Blog about the experience. Explain in detail what the assignment was for the students. Were they able to use the tool easily? Would you use it again? Post a link/scan/or embed one of the students Popplet, Bubbl.us, or Lino it on your wiki page.

Module #6 Assignment Choose 1 of the following 5: Create a Symbaloo webmix to accompany a lesson you are currently teaching or going to teach. Include a minimum of 10 websites within your webmix. Link to 1 or more other webmixes about the same topic Blog about Symbaloo. Did you find the tool easy to use? How will you use this tool with students? Place a link (or a screenshot) of your webmix on your wiki page. Be sure to also include a link to your blog entry

Module #6 Assignment Choose 1 of the following 5: Create a LiveBinder for a lesson you will teach or have taught recently. Include a minimum of 7 resources. Blog about your use of LiveBinder. Was the tool easy to use? Is it a tool you will introduce to your students? Place a link to your LiveBinder on your wiki page and include a link to your blog post

Module #6 Assignment Choose 1 of the following 5: Have your students create a LiveBinder on a topic of their (or your) choice. Have them include a minimum of 7 resources and to write a paragraph to you about why they chose the resources they did Blog about the experience with your students. Did they find the tool easy to use? How did you think the lesson went? Place a link (or a screenshot) of the students LiveBinder and paragraph on your wiki page. Be sure to link back to your blog entry
