Figure 1 Potential Strategies to Delay Aging Caused by Accumulation of DNA Damage DNA damage leads to aging and functional decline by generating mutations, inducing cellular senescence, and causing metabolic dysregulation due to persistent DNA damage signaling. These deleterious effects of DNA damage can be targeted either individually through elimination of senescent cells or inhibition of DNA-PK, or, more comprehensively, by developing strategies to improve DNA repair.
