Presentation transcript:

The Second Mile of Serving one Another Jesus wants us to go beyond what is required – to go the second mile. We be certain that we are committed to going the second mile when comes to helping others, showing hospitality, and extending forgiveness. We are willing to go the second mile in serving and forgiving because that is what Jesus did for us. Matthew 5:41

In the context of Matthew 5:41 To love one’s neighbor is the first mile – to love one’s enemy is the second mile. To bless those who bless you is the first mile – to bless those who curse you is the second mile. To do good to those who do good to you is the first mile – to do good to those who hate you is the second mile. Praying for those who pray for you is the first mile – praying for those who despitefully use you is the second mile.

Are you a second mile servant? Do you have brethren who are? Are you sure? Paul had confidence that Philemon would go the second mile! (Philemon 21)

The Second Mile of Help & Hospitality The Macedonians had gone the 2nd mile in giving to meet the needs of saints. (2 Corinthians 8:1-5) We will go the 2nd mile when we have given ourselves to the Master. (Romans 12:1-13) We will be “addicted” to hospitality. (1 Cor. 16:15) Our help and hospitality will be given expecting nothing in return. (Luke 14:12-14) We will gladly and energetically water the camels! (Genesis 24:10)

The Second Mile of Forgiveness Forgive (Luke 17:3) Forgive seven times in a day (Luke 17:4-10; Col. 3:22) Forgive seventy times seven (Mathew 18:21-35)

Will you go the second mile to serve and forgive others Will you go the second mile to serve and forgive others? That’s what Jesus did for you!
