2- How many revision units does each textbook have ? 1- Do you think English for Palestine is cyclic or spiral syllabus ? 2- How many revision units does each textbook have ? 3- What do the revision units revise ? 4- Give 2 examples of recycled language items : grammar and vocabulary and explain how ? 5- What is the pedagogical value of these revision units? 6- Are there practice or sample tests ? How many ? 7-Are practice or sample tests available in SB, WB or TB ? 8-What are the main components of these tests ? 9-Give 2 pedagogical values of these tests ?

The cyclical syllabus: reintroduces the items throughout the course and enables teachers and learners to study the same language item more than once . It’s called also spiral .

The cycling is a feature of English for Palestine and happens in 3 levels : 1 - Within the same unit: the language item is introduced in more than one lesson in the same unit . 2 - Within the same book : the language item is introduced in more than one unit in the same book . 3 - Within the same English for Palestine ( many books ) : the language item is introduced in more than one grade in the same English for Palestine.

Revision includes many items:- Vocabulary . Grammar . listening & speaking writing.

Number of units Revision Units Notes Stage 1 (Grade 1-4) 18 5,9,14,18 After each 4 units , there is a revision unit Stage 2 Grade 5 Grade 6 Grade 7 Grade 8 Grade 9 24 24 24 18 16 - - 12,24 9,18 8,16 At the end of every semester, there is a revision unit Stage 3 Grade 10 Grade 11 Grade 12 12 12 10 / For the third stage , the cycling is a feature because we find many of language items that students have learnt before in the previous stages are taught in the 11-12 grades.

These revision units aim to : -Make the student have a positive attitude toward the material. -Psychologically , it is good to start the material with easy and simple things in order to make book , teacher and class lovable to the student

Stage 1

Revision within levels Grade 6 Revision within levels

Revision for all the previous levels Stage 3 Grade 12 Revision for all the previous levels

Examples of recycled language items : grammar and vocabulary In the first stage: Grammar :1- In second grade in unit 8 in lesson 4 , students are expected to use the prepositions of place like under, next to and between . The same lesson is recycled in unit 9 in lesson 2.

Examples of recycled language items : grammar and vocabulary In the first stage: Vocabulary : In second grade in unit 4 in lesson 3 , students are expected to be familiar with the vocabulary of parts of body like eye, hair, nose, mouth, ear and shoulder . The same lesson is recycled in unit 5 in lesson 1.

2nd stage : grade 9 The book consists of sixteen units. - The eighth unit and the sixteenth unit are revision. - The teacher or student know the revision units from the table of content :- - Vocabulary review - Grammar review

(grade 9) e.g. :- unit (8) lesson 3-4

Also , in the workbook the eighth unit and the sixteenth unit are test

3rd stage : grade(11) grade (12)

This stage exactly prove that English for Palestine is cyclic syllabus Because : *11 and 12 grades are revision for the previous stages *These grades contain : -repeated vocabulary -the same grammar - writing : writing a letter , essay

On 11th grade there is no definite unit for revision but every unit has a lesson which focuses on grammar. Specifically, the fifth lesson for every unit revise grammar which students have studied it before. For example :- grade (11) On unit “1” lesson “5” it revises present simple and past simple . And students have studied these topics on the early stages .

Practice Test There are two practice tests only in stage 3 : Grade 11,12. These practice tests are found at the end of the workbook. The main components of the tests are Listening, reading , speaking, writing . Moreover, it revises the language and literature which available in the syllabus.

The Pedagogical values of the tests : It prepares students to the final exam which give them the opportunity to revise everything they took during the semester. Psychologically, it makes the student more comfortable and familiar with the shape of exam.

The pedagogical values of the revision units The cyclic syllabus helps teachers and students to learn the items more than once . It helps them to memorize the items on the long term memory It helps them to understand more It encourages and motivates students to share in class. It simplifies and facilitates the complex terms
