Figure 1 The new phylogeny of red algae based on plastid genome data. This phylogeny, based on Muñoz-Gómez et al. [6], shows the new sub-phylum Proteorhodophytina, composed of unicellular and filamentous microscopic species. Red secondary plastids branch deeply with no close relatives among the known red algal lineages.
