The Temple in Jerusalem Chapter 8: Lesson 2 The Temple in Jerusalem 966 B.C. 1st built by Israel’s King Solomon (also known as “Solomon’s Temple”) It was said that the Ark of the Covenant was kept inside a room called the Holy of holies. Destroyed in 587 B.C. 19 B.C. King Herod had the Temple rebuilt again (took 10,000 workers & 8 years!) This temple was also destroyed, but many still visit the site where it stood (*Western Wall or Wailing Wall)

Chapter 8 Lesson 2 Jesus is the Son of God. We know little about Jesus’ early life, but he was a devout Jew. Jesus was raised in the rich tradition of the Jewish faith. The story from Luke’s Gospel shows us the type of young person Jesus was. The family traveled to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover. When Jesus was about 12, he was left behind in the temple. When his parents returned and found Jesus, he said to his parents, “Why were you looking for me. Don’t you know I was in my Father’s house.”

Chapter 8 Lesson 2 Jesus in the temple. This Gospel story by Luke is the last infancy narrative. Jesus knew that the temple was his Father’s house. Who is Jesus referring to?

Jesus is true God and true man. Chapter 8 Lesson 2 Jesus is true God and true man. John’s Gospel is a prologue or introduction to who Jesus is. John’s Gospel opens with the words, “In the beginning….” just as in the Book of Genesis. John said, “And the Word became flesh.” The Word being Jesus. Jesus took on human nature and lived among us as a human being. Jesus became human without losing his divine nature.
