Drama Dran: Greek word meaning to do or to act The Greek Theater: Plays were part of festivals to honor Dionysus, god of wine Playwrights competed for honors Plays were held outdoors in amphitheaters No curtains Violence occurred offstage

Drama Literary terms: Monologue: a speech made by one character in a story, play, or poem Aside: short speech expressing the character’s thoughts, made directly to the audience and inaudible to the characters on stage Comic Relief: person who serves to lighten the mood of the play
