Gran Torino Gran Torino is a 2008 American drama film written by Nick Schenk and directed by Clint Eastwood. It is set in a suburb of Detroit (Michigan). The setting underlines the problems of cohabitation between Asiatic and American community. It shows also violence and criminality into the Asiatic community. The main themes are: Justice, human values, relations and emotions, family relations and cultural barriers

Plot In Michigan, Walt Kowalski an old man full of prejudice towards immigrants, has just lost his wife Dorothy. He does not have good relationships with his sons and their families. His teenager neighbour Thao Vang Lor tries to steal Walt's “Gran Torino” but he is eventually cought by the old man while doing it and the young boy's traditional family feels ashamed with the incident.

Later Walt saves Thao first, and his sister Sue Lor then, from gangs and he has the gratitude of his next door neighbours. On the day of his birthday, Walt is invited by Sue to join her family reunion and he begins a relationship with them, helping Thao to get a job. The ending of the films turns into a true drama.

Cinematographic language: The use of the colours and the light is realistic. In the scenes where joy and hope predominate there are light colours, while in the saddest moments dark coloured shades are predominant. Soundtrack: The soundtrack is very important because it amplifies the main scenes and underlines the various emotions.
