The American Dream What do you think it means? This phrase is used very frequently in the discussion of the play “Death of A Salesman”. What do you think it means? What do you think it means to Willy Loman? What message does the play convey about the idea of the American Dream?

Possible features of the American Dream Success –regardless of where you started out or the circumstances you were born into. Material goods –a fine home, mod cons, cars. Family – stereotypically nuclear family A pioneering spirit The possibility of fulfilling your potential to its fullest extent Opportunity

The US declaration of Independence… "…held certain truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness." Many would consider this to be the basis of the American Dream also.
