One of the most common difficulties in writing is getting out the first line. Writers will write a line, look at it and scratch it out sometimes up to 5 or even 10 times, getting nowhere. This is the first writing hurtle to overcome. Take out a lined piece of paper and a pen or pencil. You have until the bell rings to begin writing; once writing, continue without returning to scratch out or change what has come before until the timer brings the journal entry to a close. Keep your pen or pencil moving for the entire time. Get used to hearing me say this: “Writing is thinking.” Therefore what I am really asking you to do is to think about this phrase and record your thoughts. Journal Prompt Sept 9
