Function of Endangered Species Act Environmental Issues Affected The Act protects plants and animals that are listed by the federal government as "endangered" or "threatened.“ The agency is enforcement by the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service (Department of the Interior) The land acquisition program, conservation programs, and a series of prohibitions have been established to protect animals threatened with extinction, which reduces the amount of hunting, fishing, killing, or injuring of these species. According to the Act, it is unlawful for any person to "take" an endangered or threatened animal.
