consent Permission for something to happen or agreement to do something; To give permission for something to happen. ‘Consent entails someone agreeing by choice and having the freedom and capacity to make that choice.’ 2003 Sexual Offences Act  What is it?

consent Why is it such a hot topic?

The world changed… the world wars. the pill. women woke up. the shape of relationships changed. the law. heterosexual men became confused. sexual relationships became more complicated. high profile cases flagged up more questions.

All of these things, gathered together, have created a very different sexual landscape that we need new maps for journeying through.

Is consent just a problem for men?

“probably the most important point is that if you can’t gain a person’s consent then it’s your responsibility to not do what you wanted to do - not their responsibility to stop you”

Types of consent – Express Informed Legal Implied Affirmative or positive

Practise What would you say? How would you say it? I want to hold your hand. I want to snog you. I’m not enjoying this. I want to go out with you. I don’t want to do that. I want to touch you. I want you to stop. I want to have sex with you.

our relationship superpower  COMMUNICATION  our relationship superpower Communication is an issue for everyone. Clear, eye-to-eye communication however, is our path to the complete eradication of implied consent in sex

Because it shouldn’t be weird to say consent Because it shouldn’t be weird to say ‘Yes, I would love that’

Consent myths If you’re turned on, you’ve consented. If you orgasm or have an erection, then you weren’t raped or assaulted. If you’ve not said or heard ‘No’ then consent has happened. If you’ve gone so far, you must carry on. If you’ve had sex with someone before, you can again.
