Introduction There are three types of grapes: Table Grapes, Wine Grapes and Raisin Grapes based on their use. Grapes are very popular and consumed in the form of fresh fruits, as juices, wine, raisins, jam, jelly, and other processed products. Grape farming is commercial venture and almost all planting material is produced and supplied by private nurseries and grape growing farmers.

Role of Grape Nurseries Genetically Pure Stock Genetically pure rootstocks and scions with healthy growth, high yielding potential and pest and disease resistance is essential. Planting material should be vigorous, healthy and sufficient in quantity and easily available for multiplication. Trading of Stock Open exchange of horticultural goods and commodities includes planting materials and nursery stock. Special care must be taken while importing or exporting the nursery material.

Role of Grape Nurseries Employment Generation Production of nursery plants is very remunerative business requiring both skilled and unskilled labour. However, the demand for skilled labor for grafting, budding, potting, repotting is very high. Availability of Planting Material Properly planned nursery can produce healthy, disease and pest free planting material at planting time which saves time and cost and make available planting material on mass scale to farmers.

Advantages of Grape Nursery Grape seedlings and grafts can be produced in nursery and farmers need not to produce them on their farm. Grape garden can be established with less efforts. Plants produced in nursery are ready for transplanting in less time and mortality of the plants is low due to proper care. Nursery grown plants have a well developed root system which helps plant for better establishment in the field. Large number of nurseries and farmers venturing into Grape nursery owing to mass scale demand for planting material.
