Africare: Who We Are Africare is a registered 501(c)(3), non-profit organization. Since our founding in 1970, Africare has benefited tens of millions of men, women and children through thousands of projects in 36 African countries. Africare’s first project provided health care in Niger in response to drought and famine in the Sahel region.

Africare: Who We Are Our Mission: Africare works to improve the quality of life of the people in Africa. Our Vision: Africare is a leading non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to addressing African development and policy issues by working in partnership with African people to build sustainable, healthy and productive communities. Our founding board chairman was then President of Niger Hamani Diori, and one of our first office spaces was in Niger’s Embassy in Washington, D.C.
