Single-Metal-Ion-Based Molecular Building Block Approach to the Design and Synthesis of Metal-Organic Assemblies with Extra-Large Cavities Mohamed Eddaoudi, Department of Chemistry, University of South Florida Tampa, FL 33613 Bridging ligands have been targeted and synthesized to contain N-, O- chelating functionalities, which can be employed in combination with MN4 or MO2N2 single-metal-ion-based MBBs to construct novel metal-organic frameworks having extra-large cavities and zeolite-like topologies, zeolite-like metal-organic frameworks (ZMOFs). Different polytopic linkers, containing N-, O- chelating functionalities, have permitted the construction of several ZMOFs. ZMOFs with sod, rho and ana topologies were synthesized and fully characterized. The porosity, ion exchange, and hydrogen storage potential of these materials are studied.
