How is everyone today?

Difference between a search engine and a browser Different types of browsers Different ways of browsing Activity What will we learn today?

How do you use the internet? When do you use the internet?

What is the difference between a search engine and a browser? Browser: This is a tool used to “browse” the Internet. Search Engine: This tool is used to search for information on the Internet. It resides within a Browser.

Address Bar Vs Search Bar

Can you name these browsers?

Do you know any other search engines?

We use the search engine to find specific information without searching through every site yourself. Why do we use Search Engines?

A hyperlink is a link on the web to some other resource. What is a Hyperlink?

You type into a search box the information you're looking for and the search engine lists Web sites that contain this information. These results are known as "hits." The words you type into the search box are called "keywords." How do we use a Search Engines?

1)Make your keywords as precise as possible. Use “Tyrannosaurus rex” instead of "dinosaurs.“ 2)Use two or more keywords in your search. “Tyrannosaurus rex diet” Four Tips To Help Make the Most of a Search

3)Make sure you spell the keywords correctly. 4)Always try more than one search engine. Four Tips To Help Make the Most of a Search

Let us practice! 1)Make your keywords as precise as possible. Use quotes to search for an exact phrase This one’s a well-known, simple trick: Searching a phrase in quotes will yield only pages with the same words in the same order as what’s in the quotes. It’s one of the most vital search tips, especially useful if you’re trying to find results containing a specific a phrase.

Which one is the Quotation Mark?

Let us practice! 2)Use two or more keywords in your search. Use an asterisk within quotes to specify unknown or variable words If you’re trying to find all forms of an expression (e.g. “* is thicker than water”).

Which one is the Asterix?

Let us practice! Use the minus sign to eliminate results containing certain words You’ll want to eliminate results with certain words. If you’re trying to search for a term that’s generating a lot of results that aren’t of interest to you.

Which one is the Minus Sign?

Let us practice! Use “DEFINE:” to learn the meaning of words—slang included For example, “DEFINE: care.” Google will even sift the web to define slang words or acronyms. Try out “DEFINE: bae” or “DEFINE: SMH”.

Let us practice! Compare foods using “vs” Can’t decide between a burger or pizza for dinner? Type in “rice vs. quinoa,” for example, and you’ll receive side- by-side comparisons of the nutritional facts
