The Hon. Katherine McCary Creating Real impact for employing individuals with disabilities: Business Strategies & Resources The Hon. Katherine McCary November 8, 2018 Office of Disability Employment Policy U.S. Department of Labor

AMERICA’S WORKFORCE: EMPOWERING ALL Empowering All: Count Down to National Disability Employment Awareness Month With October around the corner, organizations of all kinds are counting down to National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)–the nationwide campaign that celebrates the skills and talents that people with disabilities bring to America's workplaces. How will your business take part? Reflecting a commitment to a robust and competitive American labor force, the 2018 NDEAM theme is "America's Workforce: Empowering All." This year's free NDEAM poster—available for mail order or download in both English and Spanish—captures this theme and illustrates the importance of empowering all people to work and contribute. The poster makes a perfect centerpiece for workplace NDEAM displays that illustrate your company's commitment to a disability-inclusive workforce. NDEAM's national sponsor, the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy, is empowering everyone to take part in the campaign by offering a helpful list of ways to participate. Ideas include publishing internal newsletter articles about NDEAM, launching an NDEAM social media campaign, issuing an NDEAM news release, and more. Best of all, ready-to-publish language is available to help you implement these and other tactics. The tools for capitalizing on NDEAM are at your fingertips, so consider your business empowered to "empower all" this October, and all year long. By supporting NDEAM and fostering a flexible and inclusive workplace, you can play a crucial role in helping our nation achieve full workforce participation. For additional news and resources, sign up for ODEP's e-mail updates.

In your organization, what’s the #1 reason people with disabilities…… …don’t self-ID? …don’t self-disclose? …don’t apply for a job? …don’t get hired at your company? …don’t request an accommodation? …don’t join a disability-focused ERG? … don’t recommend your organization to their network? …don’t stay at work at your company? …don’t purchase or recommend your product/service?
