National School of Public Health and Health Management Established in 28 May 2006, through the reorganization of the National Institute of Research and Development in Health It is one of the most important institution providing public health, management training and expertise in Romania

National School of Public Health and Health Management tradition and history The NSPHHM has been established in 2006, but the institution has a much longer history. This institution was created in 1991 through a World Bank Loan for the Romanian Government, as the National Institute of Public Health and Management Services; its main goal was the development of health management in the Romanian Health system Its main task was to provide consulting and training in the Public Health field and to introduce the health management concept in Romania

Institutional development Building the institutional capacity for teaching and training in PH and management within the institute – LUMNY consortium (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Montreal University and the University of New York – IPHM Bucharest) Development of the research, health promotion and consulting departments and expertise

Development of training programs With the assistance of LUMNY consortium 3 types of courses were developed A master course in Public Health and Health Management – with lecturers from the three universities A competency course in health management A short health management course for health decision makers

The first courses Master 2 series 70 participants 1 year length 16 modules Competency course 3 series 90 participants 6 months 12 modules Short courses 3 series 70 participants 9 days

Prouding results of the training activities within more than 10 years 1256 graduates 210 master graduates 570 competency course graduates 490 short courses graduates

National School of Public Health and Health Management - main domains of activity TRAINING Elaboration of training standards and methodology in health services management Development of quality training programs at all levels – master, competency, continuous education in the public health and health management field for the professionals from the health system and for the public servants in health administration

Some of the main achievements (I) Creation of an important category of public health and management specialists in the system and in the institution with major impact on public health measures, with the support of international recognised institutions(LUMNY, American International Health Alliance, John Snow Inc., ASPHER, NSPH Rennes, local universities); Succesful research projects – as part of with international programs (World Mental Health Survey, ESPAD, Reproductive Health Survey, access of elderly to the health services)

Some of the main achievements (II) Improvement of financing of the hospital services by introducing a DRG system (with international consultancy) ; Health promotion activities (focused on TB, HIV, teenagers health and behavior);
