The San Jacinto Monument near Houston The San Jacinto Monument near Houston. For those of you that don't remember your TX History, this is where Sam Houston fought and beat Santa Anna after the Battle of the Alamo and the Massacre of Goliad to win TX it's independence from Mexico.

The Mexican's camp... after the battle, a bunch of them tried to get away across that body of water on the left side of the picture... the Texans caught up and were still so mad about the Alamo and Goliad they ended up killing a lot of Mexican soldiers who were trying to surrender. Not our best moment. San Jacinto River Santa Anna’s Tent

Buffalo Bayou The Texan camp... that grove of trees at the top of the reflecting pool... while I'm pretty sure they didn't have to deal with the reflecting pool back then, they also didn't get to use the battleship on the right. Bummer.

Instead of the battleship, the Texans had to make do with these two cannons donated by the good people of Cleveland, Ohio.

Santa Anna's camp. he was crazy Santa Anna's camp... he was crazy. A few years after this battle, half his leg was shot off in another one. In an attempt to win over voters during a presidential election a few years after that, he dug up his leg, paraded it through the streets of MX City and mounted it on a pedestal for everyone to see. Who was his campaign manager?

View from the Texan side View from the Texan side... the Texans were hid by the small hill that the monument was built on. That is how they were able to surprise Santa Anna and his troops and win the battle. Texas History lesson over... for now. :
