Our Global Community What does the word “sustainable” mean? What does it mean to maintain sustainability in a region? Read the Intro on pg. 3 of your text Think about terms: Sustainable Indicator

Our Global Community One of the most critical global issue of our time is how to live in ways that will sustain our planet’s systems & resources Most sustainability problems are a result of people’s overuse and misuse of the earth’s resources

Our Global Community Sustainable Ability to meet present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs Or, the ability to continue a defined behavior indefinitely

Our Global Community What is an indicator? An observation or calculation that shows the preset state of a condition or a trend EX: Amount of crime in a city is an indicator of how safe the city is for its residents
