The Employer Requests a Consultation How to Request a Consultation Workplace safety consultations are voluntary. USF SafetyFlorida Prioritizes Requests on a “Worst First” Basis Imminent danger situations Congressionally mandated activities Small, high-hazard employers targeted in the federal or state strategic plan known as National Emphasis Program, Local Emphasis Program or other “Targeted Industries” Businesses that request consultation services are prioritized.

What a Consultant Does Initial Visit Training and assistance Visits Opening Conference Program Review Informal Training Hazard Survey Closing Conference Training and assistance Visits Follow-up visits During the opening conference, a consultant will review with the employer his or her role and the obligation the employer incurs. Afterwards, the consultant and employer examine the conditions of the workplace as well as work processes. During the walk-through, the consultant may identify hazards or safety risks that require correction and provide training and assistance for implementing recommendations.

Outcomes of Using Our Services Eliminate hazards that cause injuries, illnesses and fatalities Reduce workers’ comp costs Fewer days away from work Defer OSHA inspections Some of the benefits from engaging in consultation services include reducing or eliminating workplace hazards, reducing workers’ compensation costs and premiums, deferring OSHA inspections, improving employee morale and improving workplace production due to fewer occurrences of lost work time.
SHARP: Be Exempt from OSHA Inspections OSHA recognizes employers that operate exemplary safety and health management programs. Companies that meet a few basic eligibility requirements can become exempt from OSHA inspections for a period of not less than one year, with potential for a renewal if qualified. The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program is a federal OSHA program that recognizes businesses with exemplary workplace safety and health management programs. Businesses who qualify and receive OSHA approval can become exempt from OSHA inspections for a period of not less than one year.
