Retakes (Test Corrections) There is a two week time limit from the date the assessment has been entered into Power School to correct and turn it back in for re-grading. Retakes on quizzes and tests are not offered across the board. If a student has been seeking tutoring/extra help, has no missing assignments, and has been putting forth their best effort in class a test/quiz correction option may be offered. This is on a case by case basis and is completely up to individual teacher discretion. Test/quiz corrections are given during a core class retake period (one class per week will offer a retake period). Late classwork & homework is accepted before the end of a unit.

Math Notebooks Math notebooks will travel with students daily Students are required to keep their notebook updated with class notes and essential vocabulary Students should use their math notebook to help on homework and review for tests/quizzes Notebook checks and reflections will be factored into the student’s grade

Canvas Canvas is a district website that will be utilized with our new curriculum (Illustrative Mathematics). Student homework (practice quizzes) needs to be submitted on Canvas unless other arrangements have been made with the teacher or unless a handout was given in class. Students should also show their evidence (which was outlined in the syllabus) on paper and bring to school daily. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure they write in their agenda if they have online homework in canvas or a handout given in class Parents should sign up for Canvas to track student progress! Discipline General Rule: Warning>Detention>Referral Every infraction is different Ex. Gum v. Defiance Detentions are held after school. A form will go home for parent signature If a student is interfering with the learning of other students, they may be asked to leave the room and fill out a ‘Think Sheet’. This will go home for a parent signature.

Dress Code Clothing must cover the entire buttocks. Shirts and tops may not expose bare midriffs, bare shoulders, nor be deeply or narrowly cut in the front, back, or under the arms. Halter tops, spaghetti straps, and strapless tops are not acceptable. Clothing that exposes undergarments will not be tolerated for males or females. No hats may be worn inside any campus buildings at anytime, except for properly approved occupational safety headgear required for special classes. Defamatory writing, obscene language or symbols, or symbols of drugs, sex, or alcohol on clothing or jewelry are expressly prohibited. Bare feet are never acceptable. In the interest of safety, shoes must be worn at all times. Closed shoes are to be worn for any type of physical activity, such as physical education, cheer practice, weight lifting, etc. Shorts must entirely cover the buttocks.

Dress Code, cont. As a middle school, we have been having issues with young ladies coming to school with clothing that either shows their midriff, their bra straps, or both. We will be cracking down on this. If your student comes home with an alternate t-shirt, please wash it and return it to me, Mrs. Smith. I am the keeper of the dress code t-shirts.

Electronic Devices We are allowing cell phones again this year with the following understandings: They are not being used without express teacher approval. They do no detract from/disturb the learning environment during class. They are not used to cheat on tests/quizzes. Deer Valley Unified School District does not assume any liability if a device is stolen or broken while at school. A good rule of thumb is that if you can’t afford to lose it, don’t bring it to school. Teachers may, at any time, revoke electronic device privileges if any of the above conditions are broken.

Questions If a student has a question or issue with grades, classroom procedures, assignments, etc., we encourage them to speak with the teacher first. If the question or issue is not resolved, we encourage parents and students to contact the teacher. (E-mail is the easiest to answer during the day, but the phone works, as well) We always encourage open communication between school and home! Please come to your child’s teacher first. If you have a specific question regarding your child, please fill out the form on the table and I will contact you via information in PowerSchool. If you prefer a different method, please indicate that on the form.
