High Ability Evening Progression

Opportunities at Post 16 TH – Factors to consider at each stage as a high achieving student: GCSE – importance of high grades across the board. Importance of EBAC A Level – choosing subjects you enjoy, can do well at. Look at future progression routes, requirements. A level preferred by more traditional/competitive universities BTEC – as A level, consider assessment methods. Apprenticeships – Higher level, but employers will expect high standards of personal skills as well as qualifications HE – Finance changed again this year – see HEPP or collect information. Wide range of opportunities available – how to research? LRC, websites. Why do we do trips?

The successful student has A good portfolio of qualifications Appropriate work experience The ability to talk about transferable skills and experiences The ability to present/sell themselves Researched and gained knowledge and understanding of the direction they want to take A professional approach to studies and wider experiences The skills to be successful in a competitive application process and job market Used their support network well (teachers, parents, employers) WA
