FH Series The new benchmark for industrial vision

FH Product Line Extension Hardware enhancements and other updates enable the FH Series Machine Vision System to identify subtle defects and irregularities that would otherwise go undetected

Outline New controllers New lighting: MDMC and Photometric Stereo Illumination New cameras New software enhancements

New controllers The controller portfolio for the FH Series is being expanded with faster options.

New lighting The FH Series features two new lighting techniques for advanced defect detection: the MDMC Light and Photometric Stereo Illumination.

MDMC illumination MDMC stands for “Multi Directional Multi Color.” White light Green light Red light Blue light Low Contrast High Contrast No Contrast MDMC stands for “Multi Directional Multi Color.” The illumination color can be changed depending on the color of the object to measure defects. Green-colored defect on yellow inspection object The MDMC has RGB, the color of the lighting can be adjusted

White = R + G + B Cyan = B + G Yellow = G + R Magenta = B + R One light can be used to illuminate the inspection object from multiple angles. Example: Wire inspections can be done with Low-angle light. Inspections for defects on imaging circuit boards can accomplished with coaxial lighting. Low-angle light Coaxial light White = R + G + B Cyan = B + G Yellow = G + R Magenta = B + R Imaging element Wire inspection

Photometric Stereo Lighting Item Conventional Ring Photometric Stereo Shape Texture For shape inspections, Photometric Stereo Lighting extracts irregularities and scratches with high accuracy. For texture inspections, it removes halation and performs easy light adjustments.

Extract the information from the engraved text Application Workpiece object Photometric Stereo Obtained effect Output image Surface defect inspection Extract only unevenness information and achieve high contrast Engraved Character reading Inspect printed text on film Eliminate halation and stably extract only the needed print information. · Halation occurs on the metal surface · The defect is hard to see Extracted scratch · Can not inspect stamped characters and edges other than text part stably By combining images illuminated from different directions, a Shape image (for unevenness) and a Texture image (without halation) can be generated. Extract the information from the engraved text · Printing information not in image due to halation Remove halation

Image capture with multi-directional lighting Workpiece Calculate the difference in brightness at each pixel and separate into texture / shape (ruggedness) image A areas: Same brightness for all 4 images → Appears in Texture image B areas: Brightness differs for each of 4 images → Appears in Shape image OMRON Scratches / Dents (Shape) Printed characters (Texture) The lineup includes Photometric Stereo Lights in three sizes and a Photometric Stereo Lighting controller. If none of the cameras are 12-megapixel or 21-megapixel models, 8 cameras can be connected.

New software enhancements The new application software version 6.11 features a number of upgrades designed to ensure top-of-the-line performance in quality inspection applications.

Advancements in version 6.11 software Shape search III improvements Profinet support TDM editor V 6.11 backwards compatible Barcode grading New filters Alignment function Robot connectivity Enhanced flow and parameters CFR Part 11

Super FH software filter Customers are requesting appearance inspections for difficult-to-detect defects. These include irregularities with very low contrast, cosmetic defects, and thin cracks and scratches. Can you find the defect?

Six new filters have been added Function Application Line Defect filter Detects thin line defects on a textured surface. Line defect on the metal back surface of a smartphone Detection of cracks on ceramic parts Circle Defect filter Detects thin circular defects on a textured surface. Defect on the metal back surface of a smartphone Even Emphasis Filter Emphasize contrast to detect very faintly visible unevenness. Defect inspection for plastic parts Defect Filter This filter can be used similar to the conventional Defect processing item. Defect Inspection LoG Filter An Edge enhancing filter. The influence of noise can be reduced more than it can be with conventional edge processing. General purpose filters, not limited to a specific application Guided Filter A smoothing filter. Allows more smoothing than previous filters without weakening edge definition.

Replace the current one to the new DPM code. 2D Code II algorithm benefits From To The FH Series successfully reads codes with imaging hampered by halation, oil stains and scratches. It achieves proper reading for challenging codes and higher speed reading for clear codes compared with competing systems. Replace the current one to the new DPM code. Halation Oil stains Halation Oil stains Scratches Scratches

New “2D code II” code reading algorithm Enhancements Summary Usage Improvement of DataMatrix reading library Readable minimum cell size of 2 [pixel/cell] New algorithm is used in all DataMatrix reading applications. DataMatrix print quality support Compatible with ISO/IEC TR29158 which is an index to evaluate the print quality of a DPM code. Use this function when evaluating the print quality of a DPM code by “ISO/IEC TR29158” on a dropdown menu. A 5 [pixel/cell] or larger in cell size is recommended.

FH firmware Shape Search III offers the following capabilities: Focus change Low contrast Brightness change Size change Background change Rotation Fastest speeds in varying conditions
