Scientific Method 8/27 – 8/31

Monday 8/27 Agenda Write Learning Goal Bell Ringer I Do – Review Scientific Method Parts Notes You Do – Finish Choice Boxes You Do – Start experiment (template)

Learning Goal and Bell Ringer(p11) Monday 8/27 How can the scientific method help scientist? Learning Goal (multiple this week) I will be able to differentiate the parts of the scientific method. I will be able to differentiate theory and law. I will be able to explain the difference between independent and dependent variables. I will be able to preform an experiment using the scientific method. Benchmark SC.912.N.1.1 Define a problem based in Environmental Science, and complete the scientific method to reach your own conclusion. SC.912.N.3.4 Recognize that theories do not become laws, nor do laws become theories; theories are well supported explanations and laws are well supported descriptions. Learning Goal Monday Tuesday Friday Thursday Weekly Prefixes

Scientific Method Choice (pick 1) (P6)

Variable Choice (Pick 1) (P8)

Theory/Law Choice (p10)

Start Experiment *use as a template

Monday 8/27 Exit Scientific Method Choice (should be done) Variable Choice (should be done) Theory/Law Choice (close to done) Scientific method experiment (start)

Tuesday 8/28 Agenda Write Learning Goal Bell Ringer I Do – Review the lab choices You Do – Start experiment (Lab!!!)

Learning Goal and Bell Ringer(p11) Tuesday 8/28 What is the problem for your experiment have you selected? What is your independent variable and dependent variable? Learning Goal (multiple this week) I will be able to preform an experiment using the scientific method.

Start Experiment *use as a template

Laboratory Rules! Closed toed Shoes Performing chemical reaction need Safety Googles Must have set up and Clean up time Reacquaint yourself with the safety locations Use the set up location for your experiment

Tuesday 8/28 Exit Scientific Method Choice (should be done) Variable Choice (should be done) Theory/Law Choice (close to done) Scientific method experiment (Data collected) Tomorrow no Lab or Test Time!!! Tomorrow finish choices and must dos!

Wednesday 8/29 Agenda Write Learning Goal PL plan You Do – Finish Choices, Finish Must Dos, Experiment write up

Learning Goal and PL Plan(p11) Wednesday 8/29 What have you not completed for the Pl Plan? Rank your test preparedness 1-5. Learning Goal (multiple this week) I will be able to preform an experiment using the scientific method.

Wednesday 8/29 You DO PL plan (What do you have left to complete on PL Plan, What is your rating for test preparation? 1-5) on the board. Students need to be seated in their assigned seat for attendance. Students know that if they move after attendance they need to be working and quiet in their seats. For the entire class period students are to be working on their Personalized Learning Plan (PL Plan). The students are aware that they need to have this finished by Friday. They can be working on the experiment write up but no student can work on their experiment or take a test, they can pick up data collection tomorrow. They should be focusing their attention on cover page, pink paper, green paper, yellow paper (they are laid out for you to show them) for class.

Wednesday 8/29 Exit Scientific Method Choice (should be done) Variable Choice (should be done) Theory/Law Choice (close to done) Scientific method experiment (Data collected) Tomorrow Work on data collection – test or lab write up!!!

Thursday 8/30 Agenda Write Learning Goal Bell Ringer I Do – Review Test Questions You Do – Finish Choices, Finish Must Dos, Experiment write up

Learning Goal and PL Bell Ringer(p11) Thursday 8/30 Why might a theory or scientific law change after it has reached general acceptance? A factor that changes as a result of manipulating other factors (the effect) is a(n) Learning Goal (multiple this week) I will be able to preform an experiment using the scientific method.

Share Data!! = Match into three groups Based on Lab

Thursday 8/30 Exit Scientific Method Choice (should be done) Variable Choice (should be done) Theory/Law Choice (close to done) Scientific method experiment (Data collected) TAKE a TEST!!!

Friday 8/31 Agenda Write Learning Goal Bell Ringer I Do – Review Test Questions You Do – Finish Choices, Finish Must Dos, Experiment write up

Learning Goal and PL Plan(p11) Friday 8/31 Bell Ringer A student is testing if how long you brush your teeth affects the number of cavities you have. The independent variable is the: A scientist wants to find out if spending more time in the sun increases your risk of developing skin cancer. The dependent variable is the: Difference between quantitative and qualitative? Learning Goal (multiple this week) I will be able to preform an experiment using the scientific method.

Take a TEST!!!!! Get a notebook check over! Finish Lab Report!

Friday 8/31 Exit Scientific Method Choice (should be done) Variable Choice (should be done) Theory/Law Choice (close to done) Scientific method experiment (Data collected/Report almost done) TAKE a TEST!!! (#2) Everything due TUESDAY!!
