The First Deacons Acts 6:1-7

There are two words for “Crown” in the NT Diadema, which means Royal Crown and gives us the English word DIADEM Stephanos, the victors crown which gives us the popular name STEPHEN You can inherit the Diadema but the only way to get a Stephanos is to earn it.

Rev 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

Diakonos is used in v1 (ministrations) Diakoneo is used in v2 (serve)

1 At this point, the Church had a growing body of Gentile believers that started with some proselytes to Judaism in Acts 2, and now apparently has added a large group of “Grecians.”

3 The “seven men of honest report” (v 3 The “seven men of honest report” (v.3) chosen to “serve tables” were the original “deacon” Php 1:1 Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:

4 The word deacon means “runner through the dust,” and his job is an office of servitude, however, most are a little confused at the job description seen here

5 The job of a deacon is to spiritually assist the Pastor in alleviating his load so he can devote himself more to “prayer” and preaching God’s “word”

1 Timothy 3:8-13

Tit 2:3-5 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

6 The “whole multitude” chose these seven men, not just the 12 Apostles.

8 The “Antioch” in Syria was a rival city to the “Alexandria” in Egypt that is mentioned in Acts 6:9, both of which were prominent cities in the days of the Greek and Roman Empires. (Vaticanus and Sinaiticus come from this line (Almost every other English translation)
