Biblical Ordinances of Baptism & Communion.

#1: JESUS says so!! He is truth! He is worthy & we can trust Him. BEST 2 SOURCES of TRUTH #1: JESUS says so!! He is truth! John 14:6 – “I am the way, the truth, and the life” He is worthy & we can trust Him. Col. 1:15 “ Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created” Romans 5:8 “God demonstrates His love .. While we were sinners Christ died for us.”

REAL RESPECT REQUIRES OBEYING JESUS! “WHY DO YOU CALL ME ‘LORD, LORD,’ AND DO NOT DO WHAT I SAY.” Luke 6:46 * Calling Jesus ‘Lord’ – Needs to be followed up with action “No good thing will HE withhold from those who walk uprightly.” Psalms 84:11 * Obeying Jesus – Understanding His heart of love & Goodness

#2 -The BIBLE SAYS SO!! & is “God Breathed,” . “All Scripture is given by INSPIRATION OF GOD (GOD BREATHED) And is profitable for DOCTRINE, FOR REPROOF, FOR CORRECTION, FOR INSTRUCTION IS RIGHTEOUSNESS.” 2 Timothy 3:16

Meaning and Purpose of Baptism: Assembly of God statement: The ordinance of baptism by immersion is commanded by the Scriptures. All who repent and believe on Christ as Savior and Lord are to be baptized. Thus they declare to the world that they have died with Christ and that they also have been raised with Him to walk in newness of life

What JESUS says about BAPTISM! # 1 – In the Great Commission JESUS commanded His disciples to… “Therefore, GO and MAKE DISCIPLES BAPTISING THEM in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit Matt. 28:19

What the Bible says about of Baptism Romans 6:4 New International Version (NIV) 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

What the Bible says about of Baptism: Example Acts 10:47-48 (NIV) 47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their (Gentiles) being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.

What God has done in your heart! In a public profession of faith at Baptism. ( *Baptism as a baby – Biblically is a dedication by the parents)

What happens in Baptism God’s Part Step 1: (When going under the water – symbol of being buried) You are joined with Jesus in his death & Burial The old sin nature has been put to death & buried Step 2: (When coming up out of the water- symbol of being born again) You are raised up from the dead like Jesus ressurection You now have the Holy Spirit & a new spiritual life

Stand up and Talk to your neighbor and ask: Have you believed in Jesus as your Savior and experienced the new life of the Holy Spirit in you? Have you been baptized after the point of your faith decision or are you planning to be?

Meaning and Purpose of Communion: Assembly of God statement: The Lord's Supper, consisting of the elements --bread and the fruit of the vine-- is the symbol expressing our sharing the divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ, a memorial of His suffering and death and a prophecy of His second coming, and is enjoined on all believers "till He come!"

Communion Symbols Christ’s Body broken for our sin on the cross = the bread or cracker Christ’s Blood shed for the cleansing of our sins = the grape juice

Communion Survey STAND UP IF YOU GREW UP IN A CHURCH OR FELLOWSHIP WHICH OBSERVED COMMUNIION REGULARLY – IE WEEKLY, MONTHLY, OR QUARTERLY ! STAND UP IF YOU HAD AN EXPEREINCE OF COMMUNION IN YOUR EARLY LIFE ZERO TO LESS THAN 10 TIMES.

What happens in Communion? What Jesus did!! Truth 1: Jesus sacrificed Himself by laying down His life through His work on the cross – His broken Body & His shed Blood Truth 2: By His stripes our sin is paid in full & we are forgiven, healed, and have a new nature.

What happens in Communion? What We are to do!! Truth 1: Remember and Reflect on Jesus sacrifice. His work on the cross – His broken Body & His shed Blood Truth 2: Praise God & Give Thanks that our sin is paid in full & we are forgiven and healed spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
