Find your Inspiration. Find your Aesthetic. Inspiring Artists Find your Inspiration. Find your Aesthetic.

Why do Artists do what they do? What motivates an artist? What do they want viewers to take away from their work? How do artists determine what is Aesthetically beautiful/pleasing? Artist: Haejin Lee Statement: Her pieces push the envelope of human portrayal as they brilliantly communicate the temporary element of physical existence.

Aesthetic Aesthetics covers questions like: Concerned with beauty or the appreciation of beauty A set of principles underlying and guiding the work of a particular artist or art movement Aesthetics covers questions like: • What is beauty? • What makes something beautiful? • What is art? • What is the difference between good art and bad art?

What is your Aesthetic? What subject matter really draws you into an artwork? - what the artwork is about. What certain colors or color groups please you the most? Do you enjoy functional more than purely decorative artworks? Do you have a more traditional taste or more modern/contemporary?

What Inspires you? What interests do you have? What social issue(s) are you passionate about? Where do you gather new ideas from?

What to do? Create a presentation, using Google Slides, about your design aesthetic and inspiration. Include: Examples of things you are drawn to Examples of ceramicists and potters who’s work you enjoy Examples of ceramicists and potters who’s work you do not enjoy

Requirements 3 ceramicists or potters who’s work you enjoy Share with me at: larsonl@fmsdmail.org 3 ceramicists or potters who’s work you enjoy 2 or more pictures of their work (with titles if available) Names and pictures (if available) of the artists Bulleted description of the inspiration or meaning behind their work Bulleted description of what you enjoy about their work 3 ceramicists or potters who’s work you do not enjoy Bulleted description of what you do not enjoy about their work

Think about: The aesthetic of your presentation Do not make each slide too busy or too plain Only include relevant images and information; Check your sources and make sure that the image you use actually is made by the artist you choose Do not write a book but do not leave out important information Get creative, even if it is just a presentation!

Dora de Lairos http://www.doradelarios.com/biography/ “De Larios strives to harmonize the animal and the spiritual, the earthly with the divine.” “…her travels around the world and her upbringing in ethnically diverse Los Angeles account for the unique cross-cultural influences on her artwork.”

“Peter Shire’s overt dismissal of being defined by a label clearly acknowledges his concern with opening an aesthetic dialogue free of preconceived norms and ideas. A comprehensive and updated understanding of the arts is an essential attribute of his artistic vision.” Peter Shire http://petershirestudio.com/biography
