Christianity, Science & Belief DNA as Evidence for Evolution

DNA Scientists can now examine the DNA from different species of organism and use the data produced to see how closely related the two species are to each other. By collecting a lot of this data, scientists can compare the results with conventional ideas about how organisms have evolved. What they found was that DNA data supported the conventional theory of evolution.

Related Species The chimpanzee is one example of this, with DNA sequence that is about 99% identical to that of man. This demonstrates the evolutionary relatedness between chimps and people.

DNA as evidence for Evolution Mitochondria, the powerpacks of the cell, have their own DNA and are inherited along the maternal line. Their DNA mutates at a stable rate, allowing researchers to look back in time at when different species diverged.
