Daily Schedule *Social Studies, Science, and Health are integrated into all areas of the curriculum 7:20-8:05 Breakfast, Morning Activities, and Announcements 8:05 – 8:25 Morning Meeting 8:25 – 9:05 Math Review and Practice (practice daily skills such as: calendar, counting, identifying shapes and colors) 9:05 – 9:15 Restroom Break 9:15 – 10:05 Guided Math (mini-lesson to present math skill or strategy, independent practice and math centers) 10:05 – 10:30 Literacy Phonics / Writing part 1 10:30 – 11:16 Lunch (General for all K/1) 11:16 – 11:35 Restroom / Water Break and Recess 11:35 – 12:00 Literacy Phonics / Writing part 2 12:00 – 12:45 Literacy Reading 12:45 – 1:00 Science / Social Studies / Health 1:00 – 1:20 Pack up / Snack / Restroom 1:20 – 2:10 Enrichment 2:10 – 2:20 Pack-up /Dismissal Morning activities are geared to provide additional practice on skills previously covered and will not be graded.

Class Rules We listen and follow directions the 1st time. We raise our hand to share ideas. We are kind to others We work safely in the room. We walk in school to be safe. We keep our area neat. We use our quiet inside voice. I do not color the agenda. This behavior chart is for me to address behaviors in the classroom. I will send a separate note if there are any issues that should be addressed with parents.

Class Dojo Behavior Management Students accumulate points everyday through our Class Dojo app. Students with 15 or more points accumulated on Friday will have 1st choice of activities for Free Choice Fridays. Letters will be sent home to allow you access to your child’s class dojo points. Parents can download the Class Dojo app to any SmartPhone. I do not color the agenda. This behavior chart is for me to address behaviors in the classroom. I will send a separate note if there are any issues that should be addressed with parents.

Math Problem Solving Review and Practice IXL Math *We strongly encourage parents to practice number sense at home by counting number of objects and using a 100 chart. We will distribute the quarterly Parent Letter that will describe math skills covered. Please note that it may appear that we are not covering a lot in math because we are covering on 0 through 5 in the first quarter. However we are going very deep and making sure that your child understands all the combinations to make each number., can understand different word problems related to the numbers, count , write and display these numbers.

Kindergarten 1st Quarter Standards First Grade 1st Quarter Standards Count to 100 by ones and tens Write numbers 0 – 10 Count up to 10 objects and compare Count up to 10 objects in a line, circle, and an array Name and describe 2 and 3-D shapes Model shapes Compose simple shapes Classify objects Counts to 120 and able to write numerals to 120. Compose and decompose numbers 11 to 19 and understand place value. Identify a dime and understand that 10 pennies equal 1 dime. Compares the length of two objects indirectly by using a third non-standard object.

Phonics & Handwriting We are using a new adoption for Phonics. It is Benchmark Phonics. Kindergarten First Grade Introduce letters and sounds Blends and digraphs Introduce C-V-C words Introduce C-V-C-e and C-V-V-C words We practice manuscript handwriting based on Zaner-Bloser. We will start off with one letter for the week, but will increase pace to 2 to 3 letters per weeks to get your child reading as quickly as possible.

What is Writer’s Workshop? Writing What is Writer’s Workshop? Opening mini-lesson Independent Writing Time Closing / Share Time 3 Genres of Writing (Narrative, Informative and Opinion. Differentiation naturally occurs during the writing process and requirements are based on the student’s level of experience.

Reading Phonics EVRC (Eastvalley Reading Club) EVRC Books for Breakfast will be each 9 weeks. Don’t miss out! Phonics EVRC (Eastvalley Reading Club) Note: Kindergarten students will begin taking AR tests for EVRC in January, 2017 Small group reading for differentiation Literacy Centers All children are encouraged to check out a book from the Media Center to read at home and take the test at school. Checkout begins after orientation next week. Literacy Centers: Reading to self, partner reading, listening to a book on cd or computer, word work and journal writing.

Homework Note: Student homework is not graded; however students are strongly encouraged to complete as distributed to give them much needed practice in the following critical areas: Handwriting Sight words Phonics Reading Math Reading books start next week. No specific math except practice counting, patterns, matching objects to a set number..

Volunteers - We would love your help in the following Areas: Guest Readers Volunteer Tutors to show flashcards, count, read one-on-one. Sorting pages from our math and phonics books.
