Distance and Displacement Chapter 11.1

Frame of Reference Everyone wants to go fast. Whether it is a gangster on a bike or an antelope running away from a cheetah. To describe either of these motions correctly, we need to have a frame of reference. Frame of Reference is a system of objects that are not moving with respect to one another. To put it in basic words, pretend you are on a train. You can clearly see the landscape whizzing past you. But looking at your partner, he/she doesn’t seem to move at all. While at a crossroads, people in a car seeing the train move, see you and your partner whizzing past. This is called Relative Motion-is movement in relation to a frame of reference. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=frame+of+reference+Bozeman+science&&view=detail&mid=D41C2F655F7F7AECB20DD41C2F655F7F7AECB20D&FORM=VRDGAR

Distance…… Walk to school or drive? How many miles (or less) do you think it is from your house to school? This is called distance-the length of a path between two points. Examples of SI units of distance includes m, km, cm

…..Displacement Lost. Lost in New York City. FUN, RIGHT? Not really  In order know how to reach the given point of ,lets say, the Empire State building. Some things you need to have is how far away and in what direction the point is from you. Displacement help you with this. Displacement is the direction from the starting point and the length of a straight line from the starting point to the ending point. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=distance+and+displacement+crash+course&&view=detail&mid=FCFE6482C75A45A2DB8FFCFE6482C75A45A2DB8F&FORM=VRDGAR

Vector Displacement in an example of Vector. Vector is a quantity that had a magnitude and direction. For example, magnitude can be Size, length, or amount. Vector addition for a straight line Resultant vector is the vector sum of two or more vectors (displacement)
