CURRENT QUESTIONS Should Congress repeal Obamacare? Should healthcare be considered a human right? Should the government provide healthcare for citizens who cannot afford it? Should the requirement citizens to purchase healthcare? Should the government be allowed to require employers to provide contraceptive coverage for their workers?

OBAMACARE is BORN On March 23m 2010, President Barack Obama signed the PATIENT PROTECTION AND AFFORDABLE CARE ACT—the bill more commonly known as Obamacare—into law.

WHAT IS HEALTHCARE? Healthcare is MAINTENANCE and IMPROVEMENT for physical and mental health. Healthcare is a perpetual policy issue because it is NEEDED but it is EXPENSIVE (A hospital visit costs an average of $4,287) In order to pay growing healthcare costs, Americans obtain HEALTH INSURANCE through various providers who pay all or some of the medical BILLS. The patient pays PREMIUMS (a monthly fee) on a regular basis. For many of us, our employers pay the bulk of the premium. The elderly and poor are covered by Government. Depending on the insurance plan, some patients are responsible for DEDUCTIBLES which is an amount the patient must pay before the insurance begins to contribute to the costs(e.g. 3k-10k),

WHAT IS OBAMACARE?

WHY IS OBAMACARE SO CONTROVERSIAL? ROLE OF GOVERNMENT | Obamacare inserted the GOVERNMENT into the health care system. INDIVIDUAL MANDATE | Every citizen who can afford healthcare is required to buy some form of healthcare or be fined. PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS | Sick or not, everyone must be covered which makes everything more expensive. COST of PLAN| There are new taxes to pay for universal healthcare. EMPLOYER MANDATE | Certain businesses required to provide insurance making benefits expensive.

THE REAL PROBLEM with OBAMACARE

TRUMP SAYS HE WILL REPEAL: “My first day in office I’m going to ask Congress to put a bill on my desk getting rid of this disastrous law,”  The U.S. Senate took the first major step toward repealing the Affordable Care Act after a marathon voting session that started Wednesday evening , January 11th, and extended into early Thursday. The vote does not repeal President Obama's signature achievement, but it does set the stage for Republicans to clear the first procedural hurdle for repeal of the massive health care law.
