Why are illustrations important? The way we react and have feelings about the characters or setting based on the text or illustrations, helps up relate to the text. Pictures help us visualize the text better.
Ask Yourself What is happening? How does this make me feel? What is the author trying to say?
How does she create “wonder” within the story? How does R.J. Palacio create “wonder” by just looking at the cover page? How does she create “wonder” within the story?
In-Class Activity Construct and I AM poster with a self-portrait or picture of yourself, surrounded by adjectives that describe you. Use adjectives from the book Wonder and be creative. Using a variety of fonts and colors or cut out letters of adjectives from magazines. Glue them to the colored construction paper in a pleasing design. BE CREATIVE!
