Students Taking Action with Recognition. What are STAR Events? Students Taking Action with Recognition. STAR Events are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation.

What to do when picking a STAR Event? Find something that you are good at. For example: a hobby. Find one that you/and your partner seem interested in. Read through the rubric for the event. Decide ‘Yes, I would love this one’ or ‘No, I think i'll try a different one’

What to do when starting your project? Print off a rubric for each person in your event. Read over EVERY detail on each paper (Including the little boxes). Decide: What your project is going to be over? What materials you are going to need? Start gathering your information. **EACH LITTLE DETAIL IS IMPORTANT**

How to start your project? Start a google document that you can share with your Adviser, partner, Chapter Officer(s), or anyone who is helping you complete this project All of your information will go on that one document for each box within the rubric Go through the rubric and make a list of what information you need to gather Begin gathering information

What to do when you have all of your information? Have at least 2 or 3 people proofread your information If everything is just right, you can start printing. **If you have too many typos or mistakes, the judges will take off points**

How to have a neat tri-board: Cut your papers in nice and neat straight lines Use a paper cutter if necessary You can have boarders behind the information and pictures or on the outside of the board, preferably one or the other Have pictures!! Use pictures to create a story Clip Art is acceptable if is relates to the project or project title

How to have a neat tri-board: Title Boards allow you to have more room for information Color-coordinate; try not to use more than 2 or 3 colors on your board Tip: Judges like it when you color- coordinate your outfit with your board

File Folder Have 3 sets of information stabled neatly Do not have more than one page of content if it is required to have one page For example: If it says to have 1 page of work cited, have only 1 page You can find this information on the first page of the actual grading rubric

Portfolios You can have a title page in the front cover of the binder Use a red or white FCCLA Binder Have tab dividers labeled Only put in the portfolio what the rubric says Make sure you do not go over the amount of pages

Helpful tips to know Poster/Title Board + Pictures = Better Score! Be Creative!! Add extra information that is related to your project. BE EXTRA! However, do not go overboard with too much extra information. Have a checklist at the end of your information document

SPEECHES!!!

What do you need to have in your speech? Have the main ideas of information You can add extra details but don’t over do it **Do not let the judges fall asleep! Be creative! Make your speech interesting!** If you are with a partner, go back and forth between each other talking.

What to do while presenting? Make eye contact with the audience Use different tones in your voice when talking about certain things Do not: Move around Swing your arms Rock back and forth Be monotone Stand straight and tall SMILE!!!
