Two Types of Writing: Narratives *Narratives tell a story, typically for entertainment purpose or to teach life lessons. *There is no limit or structure to the amount of paragraphs. *Includes dialogue/conversation *Elements of a story: *PLOT *Setting *Characters *Figurative Language/ descriptive language *Format: Beginning, Middle, End Expository *Expository writing is structured writing that is required to inform, describe, persuade, or explain something. *Academic writing *Citations *MLA format *“5 paragraph Essay” *Quotes *argue/address a prompt or take a stance *Topic Sentences, Concluding sentences *Thesis Statement *Format: Introduction, Body, Conclusion
