GRDG690 Literacy Capstone The Literature Review Dr. Gloria E. Jacobs

Agenda Presentation by Mrs. Sigler Overview of expectations for literature review Workshop - strive to leave tonight with at least 10 articles Next class

Requirements Aim for 25 articles From peer reviewed journals Research studies -- not “how to” or “what I did”

Organization Use a graphic organizer or annotate your articles Claim (main finding) Theoretical frame (does it match yours or is it from a different perspective?) Evidence Method used Implications Connections to other articles Critical stance You don’t have to accept everything the author puts forth. Identify the limitations of the study.

Synthesis Synthesize articles by looking for commonalities across articles Repetition is good Identify the “spin” of each author, or how each article slightly differs Organize literature review thematically Aim for 3 subheadings Maximum of 5 subheadings

Revisions When submitting revisions Submit along with tracking from Use colors or track changes to show the revisions you’ve made

Next Class Meet on 2-9 in RCW218 Read Mills chapters 2,4,5 Complete ethics course and bring in certificate Submit draft of literature review via email
