The Book Thief: Part 2-3 Quiz! In five minutes we’re going to take a quiz over parts 2-3 of The Book Thief. Take this time to flip back through your text or talk about what’s happened so far with a partner.  Once we begin, remember: no talking or cell phones. You’ll get one warning. After that it’s a zero. Oh no!

The Book Thief Turn to page 187. We’re going to read to page 198, and then you’ll read and annotate pages 199-206 on your own. As we read: Make sure you’re paying attention and annotating as we go! It will help you remember what’s happening.  As you read: Don’t forget to annotate! You will need at least two well-thought out, 2+ sentence annotations per page

Character Maps! Because Molching is full of so many rich, complex characters, it can be a little hard to keep track of them all. For the next two days, we're going to create character maps that illustrate the complex relationships between the characters in the book so far. For this assignment, your job will be to create a map that includes 15 of the 24 characters we've met so far in the text (listed on your paper). In addition to the character's names, you will need to include at least 15 arrows with labels indicating the relationships between the characters. (For example, you might draw an arrow between Hans and Rosa with "bickering married couple" underneath, or one between Liesel and Rudy that says "best friends/partners in crime".)

Character Maps! In addition, every character needs some sort of visual element to represent them. For example, Rosa might be an angry face, Papa might be an accordion or a peace sign, etc. For five central characters of your choosing, provide one significant quote that tells us something important about their personality or character. Include the quote underneath the character’s name along with the page number. Underneath each quote, provide a brief analysis (2-3 sentences): Why did you choose the quote? What does it show us about who your character is?

Character Maps! Scoring Guide: At least 15 arrows with labels to indicate relationships included between 15 characters. (15 points total) A visual representation of each character (10 points total) A significant quote for five characters (10 points) A brief analysis for each quote (10 points) Poster is legible and in full color (5 points) Total: 50 points possible
