Introduction – National Cadastre and Survey There must be data coherence across formerly known boundaries, both technical, geographical and institutional. Important elements are coordination and standardisation. In collaboration with cooperating partners KMS will develop, update and disseminate the national collection of databases (constituted of cadastral and topographic maps, nautical charts and control and reference points), in order to maximise the practical value to society. Objective to establish a Danish National Grid Hierarchy. Project – Grid net Objective to establish a Danish National Grid Hierarchy. In the pilot project with the participation of Statistics Denmark, the National Board of Health, National Enviromental Research Institute and National Survey and Cadastre, a hierarchy of vector grids has been established. Project - Achievements Instead of presenting geodata in their original form, they are linked to, and aggregated on, a grid. The foundation of the National Square Grid – Denmark was the result of an thorough examination of previous Nordic experiences as well as an investigation of Danish needs and possibilities. Danish Square Grid – National Grid Resulting from that particular analyses the National Square Grid was established in October 2002 with concepts and results, building a square grid for statistics, analysis and marketing. The institutions involved in the pilot project decided to continue the project and intitiate a national Grid service. Luxembourg, October 23 - 2003

GRIDdata - CLUSTERdata Geological Survey 1905, John Wesley Powell, Director of the USGS until 1894, laid down the principles of a complete survey of the US in rectangular sections. He thought that the work could be finished in twenty-four years; in fact his dream was not fullfilled until the 1980s, a century later with the help of lasers, satelites and other technologies.
