The Cry of the Children

Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Theme: The Sufferings of Child labours

The poet wants the children to play.

The children work in the factory all the day.

They can’t run or leap since they are tired.

They have drooping eye lids because of tiredness.

They want to sleep in the meadow because of tiredness.

They cry for their rest.

Their eyes of the children look red than the flowers.

Stooping means bending forward

Their prayer is to stop the drowning wheels.
