Vanderbilt Emergency Department Renovation Project Starting December 2003 Completion April 2005 The Vanderbilt Emergency Department is getting a much needed renovation to be completed in February or March, 2005.

What’s Changed C1 - C8 = 8 beds T1-T3 = 3 beds E1-E8 = 8 beds M1-M5 = 5 beds FT 1-3 = 3 beds Total Beds = 27 + 2 Respond Rooms 16,400 Square Feet Treatment Rooms = 16 beds Trauma Rooms = 4 beds Observation = 7 beds Fast Track = 4 beds Swing = 4 beds Chest Pain/Stroke = 10 beds Total Beds = 45 + 8 Respond Rooms in TVC + Additional 40 slice CT 33,900 Square Feet The current ED has 27 treatment spaces in 16,400 square feet. Psychiatric care space is provided in 2 rooms, called RESPOND rooms. The new ED will essentially double the size of the ED to 45 treatment spaces in 33,900 square feet. Medically cleared psych patients will await disposition in the psych holding area located in the Vanderbilt Clinic outside of the Emergency Department.

The new Emergency Department will fill the space between the current emergency department and the Vanderbilt Clinic. The single floor structure will be structurally sound in order to build a 10 story patient care tower during a future construction project.

A separate ambulance entrance will be located in the acute area of the department. Walk in patients will enter between the acute and non-acute wings of the department.

Ambulances back in from 22nd Avenue Ambulance traffic is rerouted in the new plan. Ambulances will arrive via 22nd avenue and back into unloading areas at the acute wing of the department.

Psychiatric Transition Unit EXPANDED ED Medically cleared psych patients will not continue to occupy ED treatment spaces while awaiting disposition. Instead, they will be relocated to the Vanderbilt Clinic space vacated by the move of the Peds ED to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. PSYCH 22ND AVENUE N
