Welcome to Year 1 Meet the Teacher 2018

The Year 1 Team 1S: Miss Sendall Susie Ball 1W: Mr Wilsher Tara Durant There will be a Teaching Assistant in each class.

Timetable Both classes work from the same timetable. We teach Phonics, Literacy, Guided Reading and Maths each day. Other areas of the curriculum are explored through topic sessions in the afternoon.

P.E Indoor P.E every other week on Tuesdays Outdoor P.E once a week on Wednesdays Daily mile Please ensure that your child has suitable footwear for outdoor P.E and that all their kit is clearly labelled.

Library We will visit the library each week on Wednesdays so please remember to bring books back to change for a new one.

Ex Days Ex Days will be every other Tuesday. Tina Venton will be teaching in 1S. Catherine Nancarrow will be teaching in 1W.

Year 1 Expectations School Rules Individual Reward Chart 30 minutes for Golden Time

Golden time Children have 30 minutes of Golden Time each week. School Golden Rules. It is held on a Friday afternoon and is made up of activities chosen by the class. Check your child’s class window for a copy of the timetable.

Reading Choose a new book each morning or when your child has finished the book. Please read with your child each night and comment in the reading diary. Reading Karate.

Homework Phonics spellings are given out each Friday to be practised for the following Friday. These link to the book your child will be reading in their phonics lessons. There will be a mix of red and green words to practise. Maths and Literacy homework will be given out on alternate Fridays to be handed in the following week. This will start after Christmas.

Topic learning The first topic in September will be The Big Build, based on the Three Little Pigs story.

Timings The gate is opened at 8:45 in the morning. We would appreciate parents leaving by 8:55 so that we can start our day promptly at 9:00. The classroom doors will be opened at 3:10 for the end of the day. Please wait by the gate until 3:10 to ease congestion on the veranda.
