Sycamore Class Autumn Term Dear Parent/Carer, The main theme for this term is Dinosaurs Below is a brief overview of some of the things we intend to cover: Sycamore Class Autumn Term MATHEMATICS Number- place value, calculation, fractions, . Measurement- length, mass, volume/capacity, time, money. Geometry- 2d and 3d shape shape, position and direction. ENGLISH Handwriting – lower case letter formation :Phonics- phase 4 and revision of phase 3 Alphabet- letter names; Spelling – common exception / tricky words; word reading - develop fluency ; reading comprehension - develop inference; say and write simple sentences, punctuating correctly with full stops and capital letters. Use ‘and’ to join words and sentences. SCIENCE Materials – rock investigations Plants- structure and names – deciduous and evergreen trees Seasons- local walk; forest school- weather diaries – light and shadows Animals including humans-Bones and teeth PE Games – teamwork and simple tactics Gymnastics – shapes and sequences GEOGRAPHY Maps – Continents and Oceans of the World Where is India? What is it like? Which countries are hot or cold? What are the countries of the UK? HISTORY How do we know dinosaurs were real? Famous person - Mary Anning Timelines and chronology D &T Textiles ART & DESIGN Modrock and string fossil reliefs Sketch books Chalk pastels Clay MUSIC Singing, tapsticks and recorder COMPUTING Daisy the Dinosaur - simple coding Spiritual, Moral, Social and Harvest in Southern India – Onam; Remembrance – local walk to memorial to lay wreath; Halloween; Bonfire Night; Diwali; Christmas School values; daily mindfulness; development of a class charter; whole school, house and class assemblies.
