What do mechanical engineers do? Mechanical engineers design, develop, build, and test mechanical and thermal sensors and devices, including tools, engines, and machines.Mechanical engineers design power-producing machines, such as electric generators, internal combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines.Mechanical engineers design other machines inside buildings, such as elevators and escalators.Mechanical engineers design and oversee the manufacture of many products ranging from medical devices to new batteries.

How do you become a mechanical engineer? According to bls.gov to become a mechanical engineer you would typically need a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology. Also, if you were to be a mechanical engineer who wanted to sell services publicly you must be licensed in all states including the District of Columbia. In mechanical engineering programs some of the main subjects you would have to study would be mathematics and life and physical sciences, as well as engineering and design. SOme other important qualities are creativity, math skills, listening skills, mechanical skills, and problem-solving skills.

Some of the greatest achievements for mechanical engineering? Mechanical engineering has had many big achievements over the past years. One of the inventions is called the Cliffhouse Railway Power House, it was made in 1887 as a complicated cable car that ran off of a single station. Another very important invention was the Leavitt-Riedler Pumping Engine which was a triple expansion three crank rocker engine that was a really good capacity unit, it was made in 1894.

Has This type of engineering affected anyone in your group on a personal level? If so how? Our partner Jensen had a brother who when at 16 in his room had a seizure putting his life at risk. The brother (Julian) was in danger and the medics used machinery that was created by mechanical engineers to save his life and bring him back home to his family. Now he’s fine and along with the doctors he can say thank you to mechanical engineers.

Why is this type of engineering important? According to mae.osu.edu “Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest and oldest branches of engineering. Mechanical engineers are involved in the design, analysis, testing, manufacturing, control, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems - that is, any system that has a moving part!”
