Actual Conversations(1) With an ambassador: “If you were to die tonight and stand before God and He asked you, ‘why should I allow you into my heaven?’ what would you say?’” What he said, “I did what the priests told me.”

Actual conversations (2) With a diplomat, asked the same question: “You made me so that isn’t my problem but yours.”

Actual conversations (3) With an senior citizen, an elder in his church: “I haven’t lived such a bad life; I‘ve tried to be good.”

Actual conversations (4) With a retired IBM engineer: “I’m working on it. I’m not there yet, but I’m working on it.”

Actual conversations (5) With an ambassador’s wife: “You can’t know whether it will be heaven or hell until you die. You can’t make reservations in advance!”

Actual conversation (6) With a retiree at the gym: “There is nothing after death so I don’t worry about it. There is no God so why should I worry about heaven or hell? They are myths.”

Table talk You say… What is included in John’s gospel or in the letter of I John that you could use to respond? Assign a reporter at each table to give the highlights of your conversation

Highlights of I John 5:6-8 This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only, but with the water and the blood. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that bear witness, the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.”

Highlights of I John 5:9-10 “If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for the witness of God is this, that He has borne witness concerning His Son. The one who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the witness that God has borne concerning His Son.”

Highlights of I John 5:11-13 “And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does have the Son of God does not have the life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life.”

A Testimony of Assurance Kitty, please come and read the letter that our friend, Linda, wrote and that was read at her funeral.

A sinner’s prayer “Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be.” Does this prayer express the desire of your heart? If so, pray this prayer right now and Christ will come into your life, as He promised.

Wrapping things up Personal reflections Can we know that Jesus saves us? Can we know? Be assured each moment, everywhere we go? Can we know our sins are all forgiven, washed away? That our path is leading to God’s perfect way…
