Figure 1 Introgression from Archaic Humans in Innate Immune Genes Introgression of ancient DNA from our hominin cousins caused up to 4%–6% of the DNA of modern humans from Asia and Europe to be of Neandertal or Denisovan origin. Genes of the innate immune system, such as the TLR6-1-10 cluster, are more heavily influenced by introgression. The admixture of Neandertal and Denisovan haplotypes in the modern genome of the Eurasians, but not Africans, might partly explain differences in susceptibility to immune-mediated diseases.
