Volume 114, Issue 5, Pages 1016-1023 (May 1998) Cholesterol saturation, not proteins or cholecystitis, is critical for crystal formation in human gallbladder bile  Juan Francisco Miquel*, Liliana Núñez*, Ludwig Amigo*, Sergio González‡, Alejandro Raddatz*, Attilio Rigotti*, Flavio Nervi*  Gastroenterology  Volume 114, Issue 5, Pages 1016-1023 (May 1998) DOI: 10.1016/S0016-5085(98)70322-1 Copyright © 1998 American Gastroenterological Association Terms and Conditions

Fig. 1 Relationship between the intensity of gallbladder inflammation, quantified by the InIx shown in the upper left angle of the panel, and the normalized concentrations of Igs in GB, represented in the ordinate. These numbers are the ratio of Ig concentration to total biliary lipids × 10−3. Control values correspond to the patients without gallstones (n = 40), presumably without gallbladder inflammation. The three series of bars represent the mean ± SE of each species of Ig. There were 17 gallbladders with InIx ≤3, 18 with InIx 4, and 17 with InIx ≥5. Spearman correlation coefficients calculated between gallbladder inflammation and each Ig species were statistically significant (P < 0.05): IgM, r = 0.31; IgA, r = 0.44; IgG, r = 0.31. *Significant difference compared with the other categories (P < 0.001).
