The Louisiana Purchase By: Allexus, Connor, Honesty, Mary, and Matt

What Happened in the Louisiana Purchase? Thomas Jefferson was president and wanted to expand his country. Napoleon wanted to sell the land because he was losing the French Indian War. Also, he needed to pay the British because he wanted the war to end. So, he sold the land for 15 million dollars in May 3, 1803.

Why did this happen? Jefferson bought New Orleans because he wanted control of the Mississippi River. Napoleon had to sell the land because he needed to pay the British to end The French Indian War. Jefferson had to buy the land because more people were starting to expand into the land of the French and the Spanish. Also, Jefferson wanted to expand the land of his country to make them more powerful.

When did this happen? After the United States took New Orleans, they moved on in 1803 to buy the Louisiana Territory. Then in 1804 Thomas Jefferson sent Meriwether Lewis and William Clark on an expedition to look at the new area. After that in 1806 they came back and told of all the great things of their mission.

Where was the Louisiana Purchase? It all started out in New Orleans. Then, when we bought it we moved on to the Mississippi River. After that we bought the Louisiana Territory. Next, they sent Lewis and Clark on the expedition to see what they had purchased. Then, they moved into the Oregon Country Territory.
