LOUISIANA PURHCASE

Thomas Jefferson was the president of the United States. In 1803 he felt that the city of New Orleans was important to the United States and wanted to purchase it from France. He sent two Americans, Robert Livingston and James Monroe, to ask Napoleon Bonaparte, the ruler of France, to sale the22 city of New Orleans.

Napoleon Bonaparte decided to sale the whole Louisiana Territory to the United States. The United Stated purchased the territory in 1803. The United States paid $ 15 million dollars for the Louisiana Territory. The Louisiana Purchase doubled the size of the United States.
