We help engineers express their expertise. What does the HCTC do? We help engineers express their expertise. What does that mean? We work with faculty to introduce writing into your engineering courses and offer one-on-one appointments with peer tutors.

Reasons to Visit the HCTC Receive feedback about the writing process. Gain competence and confidence as a writer. Leave with a more polished and professional document. Don’t wait to schedule an appointment. The more time you have for revisions, the better your writing will be.

How does an appointment work? You will schedule your appointment online. You will discuss your work with and receive feedback from our tutors, who are engineering students with strong writing skills. You can bring in any academic or professional writing or communication: lab reports, research papers, poster presentations, resumes, cover letters, thank you letters, Rhetoric papers, speeches, etc. You can visit us at any stage of the writing process.

What happens after an appointment? Your appointment is saved in our system. If you require proof of your visit, let your tutor know. We can send the relevant appointment data to your professor, TA, etc. If you would like further help, make another appointment. We would be happy to see you again!

Sunday afternoons, 3:00-5:00 p.m. Tuesday evenings, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Questions? Contact Assistant Director Sarah Livesay at sarah-livesay@uiowa.edu or stop by 3307 SC.
